About us » Environment

At BT, we believe environmental responsibility is a
cornerstone of good business practices.
In line with the Toyota Industries Corporation (TICO) Environmental Action Plan, we design-in environmental improvements in our equipment and processes to limit environmental impact throughout the four product life cycle stages: development, manufacturing, operation and recycling.

Technologies currently being evaluated are designed to maintain the excellent productivity and performance of our products.

BT production centers in Bologna (Italy) and Mjölby (Sweden) are both ISO 14001 certified and demand strict environmental standards from their suppliers.

With its emphasis on eliminating waste, the Toyota Production System (TPS) helps to reduce the environmental impact of our manufacturing activities. CO2 emissions, water consumption, waste-water re-generation and landfill quantities have all been reduced, while recycling levels for packaging, water and scrap have been raised. Hazardous substances and air pollutants have also been reduced.

In addition to an extensive range of emissions-free electric warehouse equipment and counterbalanced forklifts, BT uses catalytic mufflers and diesel particulate filters for its engine-powered trucks. All engine-powered forklifts comply with the rigid European exhaust emission standards.

Moving towards the creation of a recycling-oriented society, our factories are continuously raising the recyclable level of its products at end of life. For example, BT Reflex reach trucks and BT Levio and BT Staxio are 99% recyclable and our hand pallet trucks are 100% recyclable.

Environmental Action Plan

As the world leader in materials handling with a global market share of more than 20 percent, Toyota Industries Corporation (TICO) uses Environmental Action Plans to balance environmental conservation with economic growth.

The TICO Fourth Environmental Action Plan outlines intentions for fiscal years 2007-2011 and sets the agenda for BT's environmental policy. Striving to offer products and services that are clean, safe and of high quality, TICO singles out four areas for action:

1. Curbing emissions and global warming through reductions in energy use and CO2 emissions during production, combined with cleaner, more energy-efficient vehicle operation.

2. Using resources more efficiently by continuously reducing consumption of materials and resources, while improving recycling levels.

3. Reducing environmental risk factors by reducing or eliminating the use of hazardous substances in our plants and products.

4. Consolidated environmental management underpinned by ISO 14001 certification and a policy of environmentally preferred purchasing .
